What's new coming out for 06? Reels, Lures, etc.? Anything that you cant go without? I can't wait for the Chicago Muskie show. That place is like heaven to a muskie fisherman. It's like being a kid again and wakeing up on Chrismas morning. Anybody going there?

Can it take the abuse?

YES.........that's the question; can it take the abuse of casting/retrieving muskie lures for hours and for a season? I was disappointed this summer when I tried to order a Morrum reel and found out they were unavailable. The attached review said the Record was "a notch below the Morrum". So, that doesn't thrill me but it sounds like the drag system is superior and the general workmanship good with durable parts. I'm going to try it!! Probably get one in Chicago unless I see it advertised at one of the big catalog tackle outlets online at a lower price and/or matched up with a "bonus" product like a bag or something.

I did acquire and use the large model St Croix reel all last season and found it very smooth and dependable. The only "problem" I seemed to have noticed is on some lighter/streamlined lures like Blue Fox muskie bucks I discovered I had to remove the sideplate and make an adjustment in order to maximize my casting distance if necessary with this reel. I'm unaccustomed to having to do anything like that with any of my old ABU models. Anyway, you can't have too many dependable reels for this kind of fishing.

I`m looking into some new reels this swinter/spring.The 6500`s don`t seem like they used to be.Parts falling off,reel not engaging,drag not tightening down etc.Bought a shimano off Stinson and that thing is toast already...Thanks TOM !!! .Ended the season with only two old working reels a 7000 and a 5500 piece of poo.I know Will....I should clean my reels and keep the food and booze out of them.LMAO :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I use calcutta's ....top shelf stuff, I LOVE them....well worth the pennies,
I use smaller ones, like line cap of 12/150 or so and i like being able to palm the reel.

is it spring yet????????????????????...haha

I think they were saying that because of the machined construction of the Morrum. The Record seems to have all the right stuff... except that thumbar... those scare me. Every reel I've tried with a thumbar broke or got sticky, too many moving parts.

I think the Calcutta warranty should be "it will break - but we have great service". LMAO :lol:

Seriously, the people I know that use the Calcutta seem to rotate between the ones that are working and the ones in the shop. I want my reels to work for 400+ hours a year, year after year.

I went up to Cabela's tonight and look around at some reels. They had that new Abu Garcia Record. I looked at it for a while and I really liked it. It was so smooth, alot smoother than the C3's. I think I might have to ask for it for xmas. It seemed like the real deal.

I fished the St. Croix all last year. No breakdowns or malfunctions. There were some issues with this reel though. When it got real cold out I had a few mornings when it seemed to howl when casting. I pulled the side plate and noticed some moisture in the area around the little brakes. A drop of oil quieted it down and she worked great. My wife has the smaller one and she wants another one. Im still not sure if it was worth the money but I guess time will tell. Im not getting rid of my c-3's just in case. The thing about the old Abus is that they are so easy to fix. I can take one apart and switch parts back and forth and such . The c-3 is still a good reel in my book. I tried one of the new 5600 D5 reels and was shocked at how fast it failed. This reel bound up after just one day of throwing small to medium lures like cranes and Bucktails. Its headed to spirit lake repair shop. Kingfisher

I picked up one of these with my christmas gift certificates at Gander Mountain. I think that it would be nice for LSC hatches as well? :lol:

I think that is for the guy fishing with Will! So when Will is casting the guy in the boat does not get a lure in the face. :D :D
