Lloyd's Register releases guide to ballast water treatment technology

Lloyd's Register has today released a new Guide to Ballast Water Treatment Technology that provides an independent and impartial description and appraisal of commercially available and developing technologies for ballast water treatment. It is the result of work conducted by the internationally respected Centre for Water Science at Cranfield University, UK on behalf of Lloyd's Register.

You know..........I've never understood why this is so difficult to achieve. With all of our technological accomplishments it seems to me that the real difficulty in the treatment of ballast water is stonewalling by the industry. To me it seems so simple........heat the water to 160 degrees for ten minutes. Maybe I'm making it more simple than the reality of it all but this would kill 90% of organsims contained and then can be pumped out while still at temp which would then kill the rest. Maybe too much volume of water to heat efficiently?
