MINOCQUA — Twenty-five lakes in six northern Wisconsin counties are being studied to determine the features of prime muskie spawning habitat.

"We don't know where muskies spawn in each individual lake," said Paul Cunningham, Department of Natural Resources fisheries biologist in the Bureau of Fisheries Management.

"We're going to track where muskies spawn on the study lakes, and then try to predict where spawning sites will be on other lakes.

"It's important to know where these sites are so we can take steps to protect them."
