Boat repair??

I hit something with my boat last year and it put a small crack in the aluminum hull of my boat. I'm debating whether or not to claim it on my insurance, and need to get a quote or two. Dose anyone have any good experience with weld repairs, if so please let me know who. I am a little nervous about using just anyone I have first hand experience of a weld repair gone bad in a friend's boat that resulted in a total loss. If you have good or bad experience with a repair shop let me know.
