In 2010, I was fishing the Canadian side of the St. Mary's right in town. The Canadian border patrol called me to shore and informed me of the new procedure. They were nice and sent me on my way.Chasin50 wrote:http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/media/facts-faits/096-eng.html

Where it gets confusing for me is coming back into the US. I've been told that calling in to Canada constitutes landing, and requires reporting to US customs, I've also been told there is no need to report in to the US unless I actually made land.
Both versions came from different US customs officials.

Great info considering the min risk is a thousand bucks.
I knew a guy, Mr. USA, who rolled his own cigarettes and so thought it was just fine to have a pack of rolling papers on his dashboard when he tried to roll thru at IF. After all he was legal and all, right? And a citizen of the greatest country in the world. Well...
He was detained for hours while his truck and boat were searched to the bone. Once he was informed he was clean he mouthed off at the officers! [smilie=bangtard.gif] Then he was detained a few hours longer and was almost charged with some type of offence against a cop. REALLY dumb behavior at the border. In hindsight it was his attitude that got him in 99% of his trouble. The last 1% is sheer stupidity.
