King: I agree that restoring the money from the general fund is critical but I don't think fee increases are off the table. When the $5,000,0000 is gone they will be brought up again. I just hope the proposal is reworked to be more reasonable to those of us that want to visit the great state of Mic...

The economics of the license increases are very real and certainly not baloney. Regardless of the mistake in the estimate this year the money just isn't there. Could they have pushed the license increase through over two or three years to make it easier to swallow? Sure but the increase still needs...

Yes the ballot initiative option is there, but first we need to see which final solution is selected by the legislators before deciding if needed. All the ideas haven't been fully debated yet. The legislators also have option of putting up a ballot initiative without all the hassle of public petiti...

Whoa there, I don't think that's it at all. No one is calling anyone here names and not calling sportsmen "ignorant scum". It was simply pointed out that there are DNR haters that are very vocal, these same people want change made based on feelings and not science or economics. When I read this sit...

Question: Is there a way that Michigan sportsmen/lobby groups could get a ballot initiative that would guarantee a certain amount of funding to the DNR out of the General Fund or out of the state sales tax etc????

I'm not familiar with how Michigan handles ballot issues.

It's a little disappointing to hear the name calling from this club when someone disagrees with the DNR. The BIG error the DNR made this year should lend some support to the idea that the DNR should be questioned, just as all government should be. The overall tone I get from some of you is that spor...

I'm curious about the overall mortality rate. What percentage of fish will be killed in an infected body of water?

Assigning blame isn't going to change anything now. The fact is you can't improve declining license sales by jacking the price and I doubt that you improve revenue. Under this proposal it would cost me over $300 to take my kid deer hunting in Michigan where we would get to hunt public land with a 30...

Stupid DNR logic.... (soap box warning)

Would someone please tell me how the answer to fewer license sales is to raise the price? Only government uses that kind of stupid, flawed logic. The assumption seems to be that sales won't drop because sportsmen are so addicted to hunting and fishing that will just suck it up and pay any fee they h...

I'll do my part, I'm just a pessimist about containing stuff like this. I hope you're right and it's easier to keep under control.

Hudson has kicked my butt all year. Kingfisher knows the lake well. You might kick him a PM.

Won't work

Can anyone give an example where these types of bans have actually worked? Once in the ecosystem spread is almost inventible (see the Zebra Mussel). I really believe that this ban will accomplish little but to disrupt stocking efforts and bait sales.
