Is the ice gone?

Post by hemichemi »

I pass a few small ponds on the way home, and it looked to me like they were all open water this afternoon.

Can anyone confirm? (Not that it matters much since we have 25 more days of agonizing waiting, left... :-x )

Hemi, I've seen the same thing. But Sat when I was going to Jackson, Brill lake by 94 still had ice on it. Steve

Yeah; the ponds I'm talking about were still ice on Saturday too, but today they looked liquid...

I went over to Houghton Lake last saturday to go boat shopping with Bearclaw and there were a dozen cars on Missaukee, they said Houghton has 22 inches plus still... Incidentally he bought a new boat, he was going to buy a gay one but I talked him into a better one.

Nice boat! (What's a "gay ine"? )

They still looked liquid this morning. These are only ~10-20 acre ponds, but I think the ice is gone or going soon down here...

And they're forecasting 60° for next Tuesday with 40s and 50s from now 'til then. [smilie=applause.gif]

Sanford still has ice but it is breaking up and ice free in the high current river channel areas. Sanford was down 6 to 8 feet until yesterday when they started holding water back. It is pretty close to being full pool right now. If we have 40's all the rest of this week my guess is ice out by early next week at the latest.

Ovid is about 85-90% open. From what I could see when walking/driving around the lake this evening, there is still a fair amount of ice south of the boat launch. But it's pretty much wide open from the launch to the north shore.

Got my boat out of storage tonight, PLUS my Thorne Bros. order came in!

The stars are aligning nicely... when's the 26th?

Maybe some steely fishing is in order... [smilie=2thumbsup.gif]
