Michigan Muskie Alliance

Hey all, im lucky enough to be doing a family vacation on Long lake this july with the family. i never been there and just by chance just learned there are muskies in the lake. i dont need the secret honey hole just looking for some general lake info: baits, structure, pattern, anything you guys can give me. i tried to check some info on the web but it seems scarce and that there might not be too many ski's in that lake. if so, are there any better lakes to check out in the area while im there? really appreciate any advice / help etc, thanks mike.

Concentrate your efforts early and late in the day(night) to avoid extremely heavy recreational boat traffic during the day or hope for crappy weather. Long is Gin bottle clear and July is not the best month to fish muskies there to say the least.

As Jason said July is not the best time to fish Long, way to many pleasure craft, but awesome scenery . Get out and map the lake during the first day, then focus on fishing last light into the night, well into the night. The population of muskie in Long is questionable at best, but there are some and real trophy potential. The gin clear water,bottom is visible in 40 feet of water on some days makes it a necessity to fish low light/ diffused light (waves and clouds).
Concentrate on saddles between islands and main lake points, pay attention to the wind for a couple of days prior to your trip as well.
If you are going to fish during the day, troll the main lake basins, troll deep and look for baitfish schools.

hey guys, thanks for the tips. it sounds like the musky is not too well received on Long Lake unfortunately from what i can find on the web. regardless, i will still be throwing some lae baits / topwater at night and you never know, every blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.
