Opener, where?

Post by Esoxonthefly » Wed Mar 23, 2011 10:33 am

I know it's a month away but where's everyone going for the opener? I think I'll be heading to Murray for a few hours that afternoon. I never fished Murray last year so I want to get back at least once this year.

Turns out I have to work a soccer tournament in the morning so I won't get out until late, if at all  .

Depending on how things go on the boat, either Thornapple, (staying the weekend at Barry's Resort or River Gate campground)

That is the plan. If things don't go as planned I'll be on Long.

Usually do Oster, but considering Thorn this year. Depends on if my boat is done!

Usually Thorn for me, and probably again this year.

Austin was an option with the smooth Muskie slayer Kid Coulson but i'm scared to even fish it after this winter. Does anyone know how many fish have been speared at Austin this winter? I really enjoy this tiny lake when LSC is not an option but it's tough to travel that far only to wonder how many fish have been harvested the last 2 years....

Think I'll hit Thorn AND Campau. Don't know which one when, though. Depends on the weather.

Sorry, I'm not used to smaller lakes. Prior to really diving into Muskie Fishing fulltime I've spent years and years on LSC and Detroit River. I'm used to flat calm clear water one second and then 3-4 footers the next. I'm used to Muskie fishing while big cruisers or cigarette boats fly by me close enough to hook the rich daddy's kid driving the boat with 4 other guys and zero women. Heck, last year we had somewhere in the number of 20 real pirate ships running up the Shipping Channel dressed like real pirates. They do it every year. When we run between fishing spots it's sometimes it's anywhere from 4-11 mile run. So Austin most lakes feel small to me but I love'em and it's always a good break from the chaos sometimes out on the mighty LSC.
