id just like it to be somewhat stained on murray instead of crystal clear so a lot of the fish don't get spooked from the boat or you doing your thing next to the boat.

It is always nice seeing fish, but it seems fish are definitely more open to eating baits when the water is dirtier. It is hard to go without seeing fish, but I would definitely rather catch two fish and have no other follows than have ten follows and catch none of them.

Might give it a whirl early Saturday morning. It's supposed to get down to 49 degrees Friday nite and 80 on Saturday. I figure being on the water at 2 or 3 am and off by 9 0r 10. Monday is supposed to be 90 and the rest of the week upper 80's. If I get one won't use the net, just un-hook it at the boat.

Maybe were going to start to get a break. Saw the 7 day forcast and there saying Mon, Tue &Wed 75 to 77 and around 55 at night.

saw that too, says 80 here most of the wk, but cooler at night

I sure hope it cools down by the Austin Lake outing on the 28th. Anybody know how fast that lake typically cools down? From what I saw it looked shallow all around.

Should be fine by then. It cools really fast and is generally cooler even during periods of really hot weather than many lakes due to the springs.

Anyone have temps on murray at all? Id be interested to know when people are safely being able to fish there again without any issues.

I live on a lake 2 miles from Austin that is 55ft deep with multiple creeks coming in and out and lots of springs and even it has been 1-2 degrees warmer than Austin most this summer. It is suprising how fast it cools like Will said. That being said it is still way too warm to fish at this moment.

I think we tend to foget how last summer, we NEVER had to quit fishing for muskies because it was unusually cool. You reasonably couldn't expect that two years in a row. Because it's going to take awhile for the whole water column to cool down, I expect it will be early September at the minimum before it's safe.

As said in earlier posts, I've really enjoyed fishing for bass in the meantime. Got one at first light this morning that was 22", and I'm sure was pushing 6 lbs. But, I am anxious to get back after the muskies. We can be thankful we have alternatives.

My alternative is the smallie. Not to sound like a d**kbag, but catching 5lb. plus largemouths was getting quite boring after my first real musky experience. Granted, those LM are coming from "secret" honey holes. But fishing any where else for them just wasn't as much fun. Everybody likes to catch the big ones! The smallie on the other hand are just as much fun most times whether it is 20 inches or 12 inches. Pound for pound the best freshwater fighter in my opinion. Or maybe I haven't caught enough muskies yet! LOL! The smallie is the alternative for RSA. But I can't wait just like the rest of you to put 100% focus and determination back on the musky!

I stopped off on Austin on my way to Gourdneck for some northern fishing and temps were 84-85 yesterday.

Temps on Mullett this weekend were 81* Nice for swimming not for muskies.
