Does anyone have one or have used one of these bow mounts? I am looking for a trolling motor for my new ( to me ) 16ft. alum. I have heard mixed reviews on this motor. Either its awesome, or its garbage. I have heard both. I want to stay in this price range. Thnx for your help.

Hi Rick, I have a 72 pound 24 volt on my starcraft. The only thing I hate is the pedal. They last about three years of normal use. I just replaced my pedal for 59 bucks on ebay for a new one. I think the cable drive steering is far better but much more expensive. I have had two power drives and both had pedal problems. But they work well enough. I would consider a tilt handle tiller Like Joe Bednar has on his boat. No hassles with pedals on your floor. I use a tiller 36 pound 12 volt on my little boat. Lots less money and they are pretty free of trouble. Maybe Joe will chime in. Good luck, Mike

If you're buying new I think that Minnkota has greatly improved the foot pedal on the V2 series power drive.. If you're getting the older style I would have 2 pedals on hand all the time. I go through 1 every 2 years at least.

Rick, I have a power drive, it's about 5 yrs old, 12v, 50 or 55ibs of thrust. Love it, had trouble with the foot pedal not working. A bass guy at work told me to take it apart and clean it with a pencil eraser, it worked.

I went with the powerdrive v2 with auto pilot and universal sonar. I put it in layaway since I dont think the wife would have been too happy with me forking over the cash all at once. Thnx for the help.

I have had the older PD55 for 3 seasons, and have the remote fob on my wrist or rod handle (Co-Pilot.) Tried the foot pedal ONCE and put it away. This was before I had the pedstal seat installed. Just standing and trying to use it was too much trouble. The wireless foot pedal keeps calling my name in the catalogs. Using the corded foot pedal, then wanted to use the fob, you have to go up and unplug the foot pedal. Maybe the newer version has this corrected.

I just picked up an autopilot version, the foot pedal is different and easier to operate, barefoot especially. I haven't looked yet but I hear the autopilot is solid state now? How easy is the fob to operate?

Ive had mine 9 years foot pedel failed last season. Repaired it myself looks funny but works good. Get the biggest you can afford. I have 55 ft # on a 16.5 sylvan excursion it a little under powered on windy days.

Fob is real simple. Uses a watch battery. I wear it on the wrist 99% of the time. With my setup, that day on Mona, I could not go back to using the fob unless I unplugged the foot pedal. Seems the cordless foot pedal, you need the CoPilot system, one can go back and forth from fob to pedal. I steer the MK from the back of the boat on Muskegon Lake trolling for walleye.
