Don't have a thing planned at this point for out of the area. I think if I had my druthers, I'd take a 4-day MN trip to Mantrap, Elk in Itasca Park, Plantagenette, and Bemidji where I spent my formative years. The northerns were bigger than the newly-stocked muskies back then at the time I moved to ...

Definitely, catch a fish on the fly rod.
Catch a fish on a surface bait.
Add Austin to the mix.
Get brave enough to just say no to Macatawa.
Make contact jigging with the Fuzzy Duzzit.
Drop the rod for a few casts and take some good pictures.

The launches are right across the road from each other, one on the west arm and the other on the east arm. Positives for Murray: good water quality, cisco forage base, very easy for one guy to fish, as it is basically shoreline casting or trolling with a few wrinkles in the weedline. Negatives for M...

Eight miles. If those fish have seasonally relocated to Lake Michigan, it's 30 miles.

I am astounded that the mention of spearing muskellunge has come up with the obvious success of the muskie programs in the northern U.S. and Canada. The DNR in Michigan has helped make this state a much more fun place to live with well-conceived muskie and walleye programs.
