I would call this time period the prime time period for working the hard-bottom edges with deep water access (doesn't necessarily have to be super deep). I would be trying to find the cisco spawning areas, which are not always apparent from map-looking. You have to do some fishing or find some bodie...

Hey Brandon, Virtually all the southern Michigan muskie fishing has been provided by the DNR's stocking program. Go to www.michigandnr.com/fishstock/ and select muskellunge. It takes about 7 or 8 years for the faster-growing females to reach 42 inches from the time that they are stocked in the fall ...

Eagle Claw used to make a very good barbless treble, style # L4174G, which was marketed by Bass Pro Shops as a Conservationist series hook maybe 4 to 6 years ago. It was only offered in sizes 2 through 8 as I remember. They are super and make hook extraction very simple compared to standard trebles....

The dwarf gourami is the only fish I've ever seen fart, but I have observed it countless times. It usually follows a meal. A passage of fine bubbles will waft upward from the anus. Interestingly, the closely related blue gourami and its different-colored counterparts (gold and opaline gouramis) have...

Hey Nick, Best bait might be a Beetle Spin because the only muskies in Otsego would be 5 or 6 inches, stocked last year at about half that size. The remnants of the earlier stockings are likely gone, since it has been 15 to 20 years since the last stocking. Otsego is a dandy walleye lake though with...

I think the state is doing a great job trying to scatter the muskie lakes around so that any Michigander can drive 45 minutes or so and have a shot at a muskie. The SW Michigan lakes have a great advantage in that there are not many northern pike in them to eat the newly stocked muskies. This is a b...

Hi there esoxonthefly, Although I'm no expert, I've caught a few muskies on the fly and a goodly bunch of northerns. I like a 9- or 10-weight for northerns and a 10- or 11-weight for muskies, just because the muskies seem to prefer a bigger offering which takes more power to deliver. The floating li...
