Michigan e-library

If you're a muskie fanatic -- and you're here, so, you are -- visit www.mel.org. It's the site for the Michigan e-library. You can search and read dozens of muskie fishing articles from Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, In-Fisherman and even Sports Afield. If you belong to your local library, you can ch...

I'm livid about the channel disappearing off of Charter and now one of my kids' favorite channels, Disney XD, has been moved to a higher-priced tier. Charter is killing me.

Would it make sense to put some Know the Difference signs on all of these rivermouth lakes? I can see them being caught on J-plugs each fall.

Agreed. Enforcement is a flyswatter trying to stop a snowstorm. The only reason they catch people with illegal bucks is because there's not a 6x8 hole in the ice for people to slide them in to. We have to convince the people trying to spear that allowing the fish to grow to legal size is what's best...

Look, you have asshats in every crowd. There are plenty of bucks shot by spotlight every year, etc. All you can do regulation-wise is try to write them tighter and help the people trying to follow what's on the books. Will's trying to spearhead tighter regs. I'm trying to help people follow the regs...

Fish ID project

All, I sent out an e-mail today to Jim Dexter, Matt Hughes, Scott Heintzelman, Mark Tonello, Jim TenHaaf and Mike Holmes of the Michigan Darkhouse Association requesting that all involved work together to help with winter/darkhouse fish ID to protect sublegal muskies. I included a PDF produced in Mi...

Just saw this, but it's who I would have recommended. If you need your drags beefed up, Tuna cuts his own. Great guy, great service. All my reels go there. If you're in Ludington, they're around the corner behind Capt. Chuck's.

cribs

From Mark: The structures we are talking about are located in five to ten feet of water and are for spawning. They are eighteen inches tall and will provide some attractiveness to fish but are not the normal fish crib. They are at the north end of the lake and on the north most shoreline toward the ...

Cribs

Will, Mark Mylchreest, the fish technician in charge of this, is a die-hard muskie angler. I've fished with him and he has only the best interests of the fishery and the anglers at heart. He's a great guy.

Cribs

Never would have thought much of crib fishing for muskies, but I have been shown the error of my ways in recent years.

My great uncle used to tell a story of hooking fish on a rural Iron County lake that he said was too big to get in the boat. It was one of the colder lake trout lakes out there, though.

No muskies seen or caught by our two boat party. One pike, one bass and 46 bluegills taken from the Victory Park area. Talked to the bullhead gang last night, no one has seen a muskie yet, but plenty of bass, dogfish, bullheads and rockbass. Surface temps 52-54 today, which kind of surprised me.
