life changes
Well, 2012 has been a wild one for me. Lost my job in late April, went a couple months not knowing where we would end up…fished a little, but less than normal for sure. Then the last month things got chaotic – 8 job offers, pretty much all at once, and it was time to decide. Extremely long story sho...

unfortunately, nope, not thorn...an up north giant. The one glimmer of hope is that from my angle in the back of the boat I could see straight down into the throat and could see the bait swinging around a bit way in there. And with the charge at the boat, no real chance to set the hooks deep. I hope...

Pete, Your friend is correct. I get the same reports from Ludington. The local DNR COs need to use volunteer undercover spotters and start clamping down hard on the violators. Unfortunately Ludington is very much like Montague where the biggest local violators are the role model heroes, and DNR law...

Talked to a land owner (lifelong resident and experienced fisherman) again last week...he claims that they have been killing them, literally, in the winter by spear and a few by tip up. A couple of incendental catches through the summer, but most of the sport has been 32-40" fat 'skis taken in the s...

Jason's got it. No concern with the tagging being the cause of mortality. Although... you know what I bet the handling during the process might do in a few right off the bat, but I doubt enough to matter. Ohhh...I see. Yeah, that is one helluva valid concern. I suppose the temporary PIT tagging of ...

...what age are the fish going to be when inserted with the PIT tags? I think Duke is saying we are going to waste a ton on PIT tags if we insert them into fish at a young age as only a small percentage of fish make it a decent size. They will be PIT tagged as fall fingerlings - so basically as 8-1...

One question that occurs to me: will the startup of the GLS stocking program this year affect the Northern strain stocking program negatively? Yup. No northern strain reared this year, just GLS. Because of that the goal of GLS fall fingerlings has been moved up from 20K to 40K. If the GLS stocking ...
