With a good drag and long rod, I would say thumbing the spool is a thing of the past. I used to routinely thumb the spool on every figure eight until I decided to experiment a few years ago by letting the drag and long rod do the work for me. I have been pleasantly surprised with the results. I thin...

I can't speak for the NRC but I can say that the DNR is aware of Mr. Holme's plan and also holds him responsible for helping extend the spearing season. The DNR (sorry, I hate adding the E) is also aware of the large increase in the numbers of muskie anglers (especially in the UP) and is moving towa...

Seriously, it's a state record. I'm sure the guy releases his fish normally. What a turn-off it is to have to hear anything besides 'congratulations' to a guy who just caught a 50 lber in MI. If we are trying to promote our sport and attract members, then let's keep the little 'wish he would of let ...

The best advice I can give someone is to stick with one type of reel and learn how to repair it. I buy the Pete Maina reels and have parts on hand for when they break down. Normally these reels will break pawls but are pretty flawless besides that. Casting muskie baits is probably the ultimate punis...

I've definitely fished in some cold weather including days where you couldn't cast without the line freezing in the bail and a time that I broke ice at the launch for 45 minutes to get to the open water. My worst day was the day I had a small storm cell that actually moved from the East to the West....

Hate to keep bashing the Abu's but... I have had the anti-reverse go out on my last two and the replacement parts for these reels were really expensive the last time I fixed one. I like the Trion 66 (Pete Maina sign. series) reel as well. Question... I've never fixed the anti-reverse on a reel, I've...

Lures for sale

Here's the deal... I moved to a new house this spring and found these lures in my garage that haven't been used in quite a few years now... so, they are up for auction. I'm selling them all as a package (don't feel like individually selling them on eBay) to the highest bidder. I'll start it at $50. ...

Good point Kid. Pictures are cool but take them as little as 'needed'. You can also take some hooks off of baits to help speed up your releases. I remove the middle hook or rear hook on most crankbaits/jerkbaits and the front hook on tandem bucktails. This makes for less hooks to remove or get caugh...

Lureless- Are you sure they are made in China? I thought the guy was from MN. Pete LeBaron will know for sure... he'll be back from the UP soon to comment I'm sure. What I can say, that I know from using the Super D's, is that I like them better than Bulldawgs. I just think they are constructed bett...
