Re: Muskie fishing magic
I hate to admit it now, but I bought this vhs clunker back in 1984 at The Tackle Box in Acme for some outrageous price at the time. The name escapes me, but I personally knew Tom Baggs, the guy who took the Detroit newspaper guy out on Skeg in the film. This guy told Tom he would receive a check for...

Planting Gun Lake?
Read a DNR news item which mentioned public discussion is open this Spring for potential future muskie plantings in Gun Lake. Didn't know about that but hopefully there won't be public opposition. I wonder what side of the fence the local homeowner association will be on?? Should be a great place to...

Speaking of Abu reels, I had an opportunity a couple weeks ago to make some casts with Rob Manthei's Revo Toro 60 model reel and was impressed with the low profile yet good power on retrieving #10s. He indicated to me he was involved in the design directly with the folks in Sweden and casting and re...

Hi Jim, I don't know if this is at all helpful, but a few years ago a place on Hamlin Lake rented nice fishing boats with dependable motors for use there. Hamlin is a good fishing lake but not yet for muskies obviously. That came in handy because I pulled my travel trailer there to the State Park so...

Hi DD, Are you talking about the C5 Mag X, the one with the metalic green frame? I have two of em (the 6500 size). I got the first one at the Chi Show 3 or 4 years ago. It now needs repair/service. I bought another one last season from Whitecaps because Abu Garcia had made improvements (stronger gea...

Hemi, I threw that Dunright Dancer jerkbait for hours on Vermilion 2 years ago and found it to be an effective lure, (no muskie but several BIG pike) but you'll know you are working a lure, believe me. I don't recall the weight but it is very hefty. You'll love it when you stop casting it. When work...

I'm glad I got my 3 Manta's 2-3 years ago before the extreme supply/demand issues surfaced. Musky lures can be like the stock market, ie: by the time many folks find out about it.....it's either too late or they buy "high". Even at the price posted it could be a wise acquisition. I've had a good "re...

I haven't had any problems (so far) with the Abu Record and have two models. But overall, I have used Abu for over 20 years and find it dependable and if it breaks I'm confident the service will come through for you. I used to be a member of the "Ambassedeur" Club (it was disbanded several years ago...

Ice In Results??
Good Morning Everyone, I was curious as to the final outcome of the competition last Saturday. Fred and I had to get off the water early at 3 PM and head back to Michigan. We found the action very slow with only one hot follow in the morning, but Fred landed a 40 in the afternoon on a quick strike r...

Best new lures for me were: Manta 8" (THE color was so hot you can't find it in stock again until 2007) Dunright Dancer 8.5" A load to cast at 5 oz but didn't have to cast it for long periods on most occasions in July Best of the older stuff in the box: Rad Dog A great grinder using smaller blades t...

I would fly to Minnesota and meet your buddies who reside there and have them, logically, bring their boat and have at it in the multitude of trophy muskie lakes that state has to offer. As with anyplace, timing is everything, but I would take on Mille Lacs this Fall. It's an hour or so from the air...
